While looking for George Owell’s 1984 in our local bookstore, I picked up The Laurel Wreath, a Christmas and New Year’s gift edited by Reverend S. D. Burchard. It’s a gorgeous book published in 1845. My version is bound in brown leather covers featuring titles stamped in gold. Both covers are worn and scraped and the spine is torn at the bottom with a chip missing at the top. Pages are splattered, yet readable.
