2015 | The Fall
The Fall: I’m a type 1 diabetic and an addict. This photo collection represents my dependence on insulin injections, alcohol, and nicotine. For twelve years, I stepped along a predetermined path in the name of glucose monitoring, food restrictions, and insulin injections. When I turned eighteen, friends undertook personal pilgrimages across the country, discovered drug induced spiritual enlightenment, or spiraled into recklessness, indifference, or destruction. These experiences seemed essential to plumbing one’s depths, but I was beholden to self-discipline. I thirsted for testing and expanding my limits and pushed back just a little by drinking a beer and smoking a cigarette. Six years later, I resent my diagnosis for demanding a life of regularity and driving me to crave blind impulsive behavior. I’m a 24-year-old woman desperate to break restraints only to bind myself more.
